Our Family Circle Members help sustain our vital work here at the Family Defense Center. Last year, our legal services program assisted over 150 families, a number we anticipate to triple in 2008. There is no other organization like the Family Defense Center, either in Illinois or in the United Statese, advocating on behalf of children and families together.

In January 2008, we started the Parent Empowerment Program, a monthly advocacy meeting for parents who have been involved with DCFS.

In 2007, we created a Pro Bono Referral network to match attroney volunteers with low-income families seeking legal assistance. In the first quarter of 2008, we trained 15 attorneys.

This fall, we plan to begin a policy advocacy initiative, seeking systemic reform of the child welfare system.
