Anita Weinberg is a Clinical Professor and
Director of the ChildLaw Policy Institute at Loyola University Chicago
School of Law, where she teaches legislative advocacy, domestic violence, and courses
related to children's "best interests." She leads state-wide efforts to
eliminate lead poisoning in children. She is an attorney (Loyola Law School,
1986) and social worker (Columbia School of Social Work, 1977), and her
career has been dedicated to improving the lives of children and
families for over 25 years.
Ms. Weinberg's previous positions include Director of Policy and
Planning for the Department of Children and Family Services' Office of
Inspector General, supervising attorney and guardian ad litem/attorney
for the Office of the Cook County Public Guardian, and staff attorney
with the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago. Prior to
attending law school, she directed the Resources for Permanence Project
at the Child Welfare League of America in New York, where she edited a
book, Establishing Parental Involvement in Foster Care Agencies,
and worked on national child welfare legislation (the Adoption
Assistance and Child Welfare Act of 1980). Ms. Weinberg, as the author
of a number of articles on child welfare matters, has testified before
congressional and state legislative committees on child welfare and
health-related issues.
